The president-elect of the prestigious debating society has been removed from his position after losing a vote of confidence that followed his controversial social media posts about the conservative activist.
The vote against George Abaraonye achieved the required two-thirds threshold to oust him from his position, according to an announcement from the society.
The dispute began after Mr Abaraonye reportedly shared messages on online platforms that appeared to welcome the death of the American conservative figure, who was shot dead while speaking at a university in the United States.
According to sources, one social media message reportedly stated "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an extended form of the phrase 'lol'.
The president-elect is also said to have written in a messaging group with fellow students seeming to welcome the incident.
The vote of confidence was conducted over the weekend, with results announced on this week.
Official notices showed that over twelve hundred votes were cast in favor of removal, while just over five hundred were opposed the motion.
The notice confirmed that the president-elect was considered to have resigned in following the Oxford Union's rules.
Voting operations were informally suspended early on the previous day after the returning officer was allegedly subjected to "interference, threats, and inappropriate behavior" from several representatives.
In a response, the student asserted that the count had been halted because election administrators believed "no legitimate and true result could be reached as a result of process errors".
His response unequivocally denied that any representative appointed by George had engaged in intimidating or disruptive behavior.
The student stated that significant concerns had been submitted to the governing body and that he continued as president-elect.
His statement added that he was "proud and thankful to have the support of significantly more than half of students at Oxford" who supported a "secure voting process and resist attempts to subvert democracy".
Critics have said that any failure to remove him would "signal to the world that the Oxford Union has chosen ideology over integrity".
On Friday, Kirk's former chief of staff read out an open letter to the society on The Charlie Kirk Show broadcast.
The message accused the society of becoming a place where "student leaders openly applaud the killing of a political opponent".
The communication indicated that if the student were to remain in post, Kirk's allies would "directly reach out to every American political speaker who has ever spoken at the society and advise them against future participation".
The Oxford Union had previously criticized Mr Abaraonye's remarks after Kirk's death and confirmed that complaints submitted about him had been referred for official review.
The president-elect had been one of several students to debate with the activist at the union in spring.
