Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic champion, who earned bronze at the World Championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The women-only event filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
